Review : Martin Scorsese hasn't made a gangster film properly since his only best picture winner The Departed in 2006 and his career has been wonderfully experimental and introspective as The Irishman has settles into its first act after few flunky opening scenes, you can feel the director employing the old good fellas and casino tropes all over again but with a good deal of thoughts and perspectives and hence it's a incredibly thoughtful gangster movie.

The Irishman is a gangster flick wary of its own identity transforming the violence of classic Scorsese movie into a sad ,tragic retrospective on human morality. The Irishman script from the legendary Steven Zaillian spans decades. We follow the real life mob hitman Frank the Irishman Sheeran from 1950s to 2000 depicting his time working first for Pennsylvanian mob boss Russel Bufalino and eventually notorious american labor union leader Jimmy Hoffa. The script is majorly focused on the relationship he shares with his two bosses. It's important to note that Scorsese and Zaillian had no difficulty in making the movie enjoy to watch ,at 3 and half hour time there are naturally some pacing problems but this epic is never boring.

Martin Scorsese took the gangster genre ,he help define is a story of epic proportions that benefits from subtly brilliant special effects and three knockout performances by Robert DeNiro , Joe Pesci and Al Pacino. The master film maker introspective ,thoughtful film which is just as entertaining as his classics and diving deep into the darkest souls and finding some semblance of a heart.

Trivia : According to Deadline, before accepting the role of Russell Bufalino, Joe Pesci refused multiple times to come out of retirement in order to appear in this film. Some sources say the actual number of refusals was fifty
